Passing of Former Local President Dennis Dearing

The Local has received notification that Dennis Dearing, former President CWA Local 3310 & CWA District 3 Staff Representative has passed away.  Dennis ascended to the Presidency of Local 3310 upon the appointment of President Nelle Horlander to the position of CWA District 3 Staff Representative.  He served as our Local President from February 16, 1974 until December 31, 1979, when he was subsequently promoted to the position of CWA District 3 Staff Representative.  Dennis was also the brother-in-law to our retired Local Administrative Assistant Mora McCreary.

Perdido Beach, AL – Robert Dennis Dearing, 69, died January 6, 2019.  He had lived in Perdido Beach, Alabama for 2 1/2 years.  He lived formerly in Louisville, KY, Huntsville and Hayden, Alamaba.

He was preceded in death by parents, Betty and Richard; sister Debbie Greco; wife Susan Dearing; and granddaughter Jasmine Lampkin.  Survivors include his wife Pamela Dearing and children Chastity; Raymond (Susan); Shawn and Corissa (Ronnie). Step children include Lorie (Paul) and William (Michelle).  He is also survived by his sister Ella Richards (Mike Welch) and brother Richard “Dick” Dearing (Marcia).  There are numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dearing grew up in Louisville, KY and attended Flaget High School.  He was hired in 1969 by South Central Bell as an Installer/Repairman. In 1974 he became full time President of Local 3310, Communications Workers of America and served until the end of 1979.  He was later appointed to the office of Alabama State Director by the District 3 Office of the Communication Workers of America until his retirement in 1999.  More recently Mr. Dearing was an automobile arbitrator working in central Alabama and the Gulf Coast area.

Mr. Dearing’s civic involvement included serving several terms as a board member for Blount County Children’s Center and board member for Avadian Credit Union.  He was involved with the United Way, Jefferson County and former active member of Voices of the South, Birmingham.  He was a huge supporter of the University of Kentucky basketball and formerly a part of the UK Alumni Club in Birmingham.

A reception will be held at Saint Henry Catholic Church in Warrior, AL on Thursday, January 10 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and a memorial mass service will be held at Saint Brigid Catholic Church, 1520 Hepburn Ave, Louisville, KY beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 11.
